Medical Fraudster Sentenced to $48 Million in Restitution for Deceptive Telemedicine Scheme

Man from Pelham Manor admits guilt in health care fraud and kickback operation

In 2019 to 2022, Manishkumar Patel from Pelham Manor was involved in fraudulent activities that resulted in substantial losses. He obtained prescription details from call centers and then used telemedicine appointments with Medicare patients to obtain fraudulent prescriptions. With the help of an accomplice, he sold the drugs obtained through these deceptive means to Medicare providers, resulting in losses amounting to almost $50 million.

As punishment, Patel has been ordered to pay restitution exceeding $48 million to the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Additionally, he has been required to forfeit over $6 million. For each offense committed, Patel faces a potential maximum prison sentence of five years.

Patel’s actions not only defrauded the healthcare system but also jeopardized the well-being of those in need of legitimate medical assistance. Such crimes have severe consequences and impact the integrity of the healthcare industry as a whole.
