Experiencing the 2024 Solar Eclipse Safely: How to Obtain Eclipse Glasses and Enjoy the Event with Protected Vision

UHS Gets Ready to Surpass Expectations with “Eclipse” Event on April 8!

To allow University Health Service staff to fully experience the excitement of the 2024 Solar Eclipse, the office will be closed for one hour in the afternoon on April 8, from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. During this time, Dr. Ethan Beaudett, our Medical Chief, will be on-call to handle any urgent calls received by our answering service. Normal operations will resume at 4:00 p.m.

We urge everyone to take advantage of this historic event and witness it safely! It’s important to remember to protect your eyes during a solar eclipse in order to prevent any long-term damage to your vision. Professor James Zavislan, an expert in optics and biomedical engineering as well as ophthalmology, explains how eclipse glasses work to safeguard your eyes from the sun’s harmful light.

If you need eclipse glasses for the upcoming total solar eclipse, you can obtain up to two pairs with a University ID from various locations on the River Campus and at the Eastman School of Music. Make sure you enjoy the eclipse safely and take proper precautions to protect your eyes during this extraordinary event.
